In Trio

A group improvisation inspired by archival and found electro-acoustic sound from Ngunnawal Country and South-to-Eastern Asia.

Redefining what a solo improvisation practice is to her, the acclaimed musician and sound artist Sia Ahmad looked to the past and works as an incidental archivist, using sounds collected since her teenage years, captured on various media such as cassette tapes and iPhone recordings.

In real-time, recorded instruments and environmental sound create new psycho-geographic locations, blurring her world between the home, the studio and local neighbourhood with sonic memories from her travels across Bangladesh, India, Malaysia, Japan and Indonesia. With this performance, she premieres the possibilities of expanding this "fourth world" aesthetic, working with different live collaborators in each city she performs in to hold conversation through deep listening, the narrative driven by where she takes the sounds or in response to the impressions of others.

About Sia Ahmad: with a rich and extensive background in Australian music, Sia Ahmad has been creating idiosyncratic sounds for over a decade, working as singer/composer and improviser (also performing as Shoeb Ahmad) as well as on collaborative projects. Once of acclaimed electronic jazz outfit Tangents and an APRA AMCOS Art Music Award winner, she has performed and released original music throughout Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Europe and South Eastern Asia, while also working on sound design for dance/theatre, installation pieces and contemporary chamber composition.
