Kyle MacLachlan joins Strand Book Store for an evening of conversation about his highly anticipated memoir, Fictional Selves. Best known for unforgettable roles in Twin Peaks, Blue Velvet, Sex and the City, Fallout, and more, MacLachlan shares an original and deeply personal account of his offbeat journey through Hollywood, his battles with fear and fame, and the creative projects that shaped him into a cult icon.
Plucked from obscurity to star in David Lynch's Dune, MacLachlan rebounded with a startling performance in Lynch's Blue Velvet, which would mark him as a master of the unusual and ultimately lead to his career-defining role as Agent Dale Cooper on Twin Peaks. Fictional Selves is a book of doppelgangers, with MacLachlan mirrored by his own prodding ego ("Other Kyle"), the iconic characters he inhabited, and the ones that eluded his grasp. This event includes a discussion but does not include a book signing, held at Symphony Space.

Friday, September 18th at 8pm, ISSUE presents the first commission from 2026 AIR Eden Girma. In this new work for voice and electronics, Girma explores the fraught and ever-shifting nature of being, as colored by loss, language, and belonging. Part dreamscape and part summoning circle, an intimate diasporic familial archive is pieced together through the eyes of a five-year-old child.
Improvisation with spoken word and song, digital instruments, live processing, and mixed media opens a space in which to grapple against both tensions and resonances laced within narratives around migration, cultural preservation, embodied history, and identity making. Girma's residency is supported by Harvestworks' Technology Immersion Program (TIP). Curated by Zev Greenfield.
