About Valerie Chidiac

Valerie Chidiac (she/her) is a writer and actor born in Beirut, Lebanon and raised on Gadigal land.

She has been involved in student journalism, theatre, film and publishing, including as an editor and reviewer in between studying at the University of Sydney and Sydney Actors School.

In 2024, ATAR Notes published her study text guide for Jane Austen's Emma (1815).

Current work

Valerie is currently an intern at Red Room Poetry and a School News Project facilitator, specialising in helping primary school students make their own student newspaper.

She is also a writer at Almost Famous Zine, a US-based zine for music, culture and art.

Recent projects

Earlier this year, she was a Junior Curator at the Young Australian Film Festival and a literary editor for the Journals of Love and Literature.

She has also started 7 Seconds Zine with her best friend, and is looking to make more editions centring around the fleeting nature of memory.

Beyond the page

If there's one thing to know about her, it is that she loves to volunteer at different events and festivals such as the Sydney Film Festival, Sydney Writer's Festival, and Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA), as well as organisations like the Women and Girl's Emergency Centre.

When not working, she is usually logging stuff on Letterboxd and Goodreads and battling guilt over not making more art!
