Meet Sean Larry Mudariki, Reviewer at Sydney Dramaturgical

Even though he is now a writer and performer, Sean Larry Mudariki was born and bred to become an absolute corporate weapon.

Growing up, his parents instilled in him that his destiny was to become a hotshot lawyer at a Big Four law firm (ideally PwC).

Unfortunately for his parents, when Sean was thirteen, he watched the hit TV show Glee, which gave him the magical powers to stand up to them and unveil his secret, life-altering passion for theatre.

To his parents' further disappointment, Sean now holds a Bachelor of Performing Arts from WAAPA and is completing a Master of Dramatic Writing at NIDA.

(But his mum still prays every night that he'll drop everything and do a Juris Doctor.)

A Writer Shaped by the Internet

Because of the pressure from his parents, Sean spends a lot of time on the internet, which has inevitably seeped into his work.

He writes pop-culture-obsessed work that is dramatic, funny and mainly features characters who do bad things, while trying to understand why they do them.

Current Projects

His current projects include an absurd musical comedy play called The World Died When We Stopped Having Boybands, about a group of washed-up childhood stars desperate to make a comeback at Australian Idol: All Stars.

He is also developing Fly, a dark crime drama feature film about two insecure teenage boys who steal Ozempic from their elderly diabetic neighbour in the hopes of becoming more beautiful.

Recent Achievements

In 2025, Sean was selected for ATYP's National Studio, where he developed the dark comedy Driving Everywhere and Nowhere at Once, which is now published by Currency Press.

In 2024, he wrote and directed the teen dark comedy Dance After Death, which had a sold-out season at Perth Fringe and won the Best Theatre Award.

The Dream

Although it has never quite caught on, Sean's absolute dream is to be known as the "Sabrina Carpenter of theatre," creating tongue-in-cheek work that reflects the strange world we live in.
