About Helen Hopcroft
Originally from Tasmania, Helen Hopcroft is a writer and artist who once spent a year dressed as Marie Antoinette for a piece of performance art titled My Year as a Fairy Tale.
She is fascinated by all manifestations of wildness, and continues to be deeply enchanted by words, painting and nature.
She holds a Master in Fine Arts (Painting) from the Royal College of Art and a Creative Writing PhD from Newcastle University.
Recent Residency
Helen was recently awarded Creative Australia's Keesing Studio at the Cité internationale des arts, a residency opportunity for Australian writers in Paris.
There she worked on a memoir that intertwines her life with that of Marie Antoinette, the last Queen of France.
Upcoming Publication
Her short fiction, Dark (Plant) Matter, will be published in the upcoming October 2026 edition of Sydney-based literary journal Written Off, guest-edited by poet Paris Rosemont.
