Eric Vaughn Holowacz grew up in a small suburban town in South Carolina, migrated to Aotearoa and became a Kiwi in the early 2000s.

He has lived and worked as a cultural engineer for over 25 years.

Artist Colonies and Residencies

He is a creative instigator and founder of two American artist colonies (The Studios of Key West and Sedona Summer Colony).

He has also founded a handful of creative development residencies in New Zealand and Australia.

Arts Facilities and Place-Making

His work has involved the building and activation of arts facilities, including the development of Toi Poneke Wellington Arts Centre and Australia's newest outdoor amphitheatre at Godinymayin Arts and Culture Centre in the Northern Territory.

He began his career at the South Carolina Arts Commission and Spoleto Festival, and has led arts organisations in South Carolina, Louisiana, Sedona, Tauranga, and Cairns.

Professional Focus

Professionally, he specialises in manifesting new forms of engagement and building unimagined arts partnerships.

He is also focused on fostering creative community and enhancing cultural infrastructure and place-making.

Creative Practice

Creatively, he is a practicing poet who studied prosody under American writer James Dickey.

He is currently working on a collection of contemporary foreign language poems in translation called The Other Tongue.

Base

He keeps a base in Newtown and currently works in Launceston, Tasmania.
